Moyale for victory

Moyale Barracks have vowed to pin down brothers-in-arms Kamuzu Barracks (KB) in their quest to lift the Fisd Challenge Cup tomorrow at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Moyale assistant Coach, Charles Kamanga, said the team has been undergoing intensive preparations ahead of the all- Malawi Defence Force final.

Kamanga said the Lions of Kaning’ina are itching to end their six-year cup drought and that they need the trophy more than their Lilongwe-based counterparts.

“Kamuzu Barracks won the TNM Super League last season and we did not win anything. So, we need to win this cup to make our fans happy,” he said.

Kamanga said qualifying for tomorrow’s final is an indication of the team’s strides in competing against the best in the country, adding that lifting the Fisd Challenge Cup would put the icing on the cake.

He then commended his charges for making it to the semifinals of the Airtel Top 8 and Carlsberg cups and expressed hope that the team would perform even much better next season.

But KB have also been preparing well for the final match, with the Lilongwe-based military side thumping fellow soldiers Mafco 5-2 on Wednesday in a friendly match.

KB Team Manager, Francis Shaba, said winning the Fisd Challenge Cup would be the right consolation after the team’s failure to retain the Super League title.

Shaba said he is aware that his team is facing a side that has done better than they have this season but stated that Moyale can be beaten.

“We are prepared. We will go and play our game. We appeal to soccer lovers to throng Civo Stadium and enjoy the match. I can assure them that we have players who will entertain them on the day,” he said.

KB got the better of Moyale in 2013 during the final of the Carlsberg Cup at Mzuzu Stadium and will be hoping to do a double on their fellow soldiers.
